Some fabric stores offer sewing classes but I've never seen one offering fabric tours, where they take you around the store and explain different types of fabric. The difference between chiffon and organza is easy to experience in person, but I still don't understand the difference between ITY and jersey.

I have a question ā¦DONT THEY TEACH THIS KINDA STUFF IN SCHOOL?! Iām a seamstress and fabrics and their functions is like one of the first things you learn. Itās such a shame that designers donāt really get in touch with the materials at hand when in uniā¦how are you supposed to design wearable clothes when you donāt know Jack shit about fabrics.
I was told by universities that my apprenticeship as a seamstress is a disadvantage because Iām āspoiledā from knowing too many technical skills to get creative with my designs. And I was likeā¦is this an actual uni subject or are you doing some liberal art course for bored adults with money ffs like what?!
