The way to know if you have limerence or love is: limerence feels like taking a drug that makes you feel amazing and joyful and powerful. Love is more quiet and profound.

At almost 50, I'm learning that I've never actually been in love. Mature, healthy, balanced love. I've done 6 years of therapy and lots of work! I'm ready for real love, not limerence. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I experienced Limerence - it was beautiful and it was cruel. It softened over time but will never truly end.

Exactly! People often fall in love with the person they think they are and not for the person they are.

Its similar to a crush, you are intrigued by the mystery of the person. You like the idea od them rather than them themselves.

I have decided to get to know a person for at least a month as they will reveal themselves through messages, texts, video calls, etc and meet ups.

Before smart phones, you'd probably find out about them through strictly meet ups, through friends, work, school etc.

With social media and smart tech, you can get to know a little quicker. It's also easier to creep and probably get limerence more than ever!

Very strange times how social media builds the potential for limerence quicker even before fully interacting with them ๐Ÿ˜…

I discovered limerence on the very end of the fairy tale ending

I totally identify. And because I practically manifested thisโ€ dream man โ€œ I gave my all and accepted his crumbs . I thought it was love and the come down was harsh , the trauma , haunting and the abuse I spat once I realised he was a mare human and a normal being ๐Ÿ˜… gosh I never want to experience that again!

Yep. And sometimes it's okay to be aware and use it as a learning experience. Sometimes, it's the spark at the beginning of something sustainable....sometimes not. It's just feelings

That's the best and quickest synopsis of what I experienced and trying to get out of. I've been telling myself, I didn't hardly know her and I feel let down and I also let her down. Now, she basically hates me...

Never heard of Limerence. It resonates with me as I identify with it. Though it rarely happens. Which makes me wonder why? Given itโ€™s about our deep seated needs.

This is tricky for me because I think I've been limerent over the FA I dated for about 2 months, (who abruptly cut me off after an argument 2 years ago). He moved country shortly after this but he did reach out multiple times and apologised. We haven't spoken in over a year now and tbh, I didn't give him much when he did reach out to me because I knew after said abrupt ending that it wasn't a healthy situation. But even now, when i think of him, apart from his overreaction to some triggers, he was really a great person and I really really enjoyed his company and cared for him so its really hard not to be limerent ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Limerence for me answered many questions. I am using limerence. Limerence is not using me. You're supposed to be the expert. Why be so afraid?
