McGonagall wasn't actually born yet while Newt was in school. That's a mistake on the the films, and only adding a character for nostalgia rather than accuracy.

Apparently McGonagall was born on October 4th, 1935, which would make her around 56 years old when Harry first meets her. She’s described as having black hair wound in a tight bun. She was also around 36 years old in the Snape flashback when she put the sorting hat on his head.
The McGonagall in Fantastic Beasts was a continuity error, especially since Minerva’s father, Robert McGonagall, was a muggle. Minerva’s mother was a witch by the name of Isobel Ross, so there’s not even a chance the Director could excuse this movie mistake as “an aunt or grandmother.” It’s just blatantly a mistake.

Voldemort attended Hogwarts in the 1940s.

Fantastic beasts made a mistake. Minerva had been teaching for 39 years in OOTP when umbridge asked her, she was a 2nd year when Tom riddle was a 7th year

yes she taught newt but that was a mistake as she was born in 1935 and began teaching in 1956 at 21 after working at the ministry so she wasn’t even born when fantastic beasts where happening (guess i’m the paragraph guy today )

Tbh in all the FB2 scenes of her, we never see her teaching. She could have been undertaking research, been a nurse, who knows. 🤷
Also her 39 years teaching was only implied to be consecutive, she could have done other work in between. I wouldnt put it past her to do some trainig under Dumbledore when she graduated, left for a few decades to do her own thing, then came back to teach once she had acquired some worldy skill

Minerva did not teach Newt. She won a trophy for Quiditch in the 1950. It was possibly her grandmother.
