Used to be on fentanyl real bad.. you hit the nail on the head when you said after youβve become dependent on it nothing brings you joy except the drug itself. Withdrawals were horrendous; literally hell on earth and it lasts roughly 14 days for you to start to feel βnormalβ again. I was on it for like a year. Got clean then relapsed so had to go through the entire process all over again. Iβm 21 now and itβs been about 2 years for me being clean and life has gotten better. Just got myself a car the other day. If youβre going through addiction, the only way to quit is to stop cold turkey. Youβll feel like hell the next couple of weeks, but itβs just your body repairing itself for you so you can feel better β€ God bless to all

I was a IV Fentanyl user for 4 years. It's one heck of a drug I'll tell you that much. It's like when you're driving through a horrible rain storm and you can't see anything and it's real loud but suddenly you drive under an overpass and it's clear and silent. That's what's Fentanyl is like. But, you will lose everything in life for it. Even your own life. I've been clean since March 17th 2023.

Anaesthesiologist here who uses Fentanyl daily (on patients).
It is actually a pretty safe drug if administered correctly, because it has very little effect on circulation and cardiac function. It is also not very addictive (which may seem counterintuitive given the Opoid crisis in the US). The main problem with controlled, adequate use is the respiratory depression, as with all Opoids. As little as 50 mcg can result in asphyxiation. The typical dose we use for anaesthesia is about 100 to 500 mcg depending on patient and procedure. These patients will all suffer from apnea, which is why artificial ventilation is part of every general anaesthesia.
As a painkiller, Fentanyl is better used via a continuous transdermal application rather than tablets, and only in patients with severe pain.
If the level of pain is high enough, addiction will not develop for days or weeks even. Addiction usually results from not switching to non-opoids as acute pain subsides or not treating chronic pain adequately.
