Apparently it’s not the air trapped inside that will make it explode. It’s the residual moisture. So if you let it dry completely, it won’t explode.

Ok real question, if you wash the bowl and water gets in the hole, how do you get it out? Won’t it grow mold over time?

the moisture causes explosions, the holes only help give it a place to escape. if u dry items completely it should be fine but i understand being anxious abt it or not wanting to wait that long lol. if ur gonna actually use this bowl tho u might wanna plug that hole for cleanliness

Hi :) apparently if its completely dry before going in the kiln it won't explode so no need for the hole.
It explodes because of the water in the clay vaporising
( I saw a video of a lady making things and that's how she explained it )
