This one hits. Not that my parents pushed me too hard; if anything, they didn't push me hard enough or hold me accountable enough. And they offered me as many opportunities as possible to explore my interests and develop my talents. But when i was really passionate about something and would practice and work on it for hours and hours and come up with a result i was proud of, the response was usually pretty lukewarm or unenthusiastic, or they wouldn't show up to performances because they were working or tired from working. My dad will hype me up to the family and his friends, and I'm just like, dad, how do you know I'm a good pianist? I'm not sure you've heard me play half a dozen times in my entire life, and maybe one of those times was in the past 15 years. They're not negative or anything, they want me to succeed, but it's just like they can't really be bothered, or it doesn't occur to them to even ask how my recital went, or watch the videos i send them.
