While not built for it, after releasing our Unity game with Windows as the only built platform, we found that it had zero issues running on the Steam Deck without any tinkering. The game is called Updog on Steam, and it’s a very simple (and cheap!) little game if you wanted to see.

Wow looks good. When dropping in your own Unity game, do you need to set up inputs for the steam deck or do they work out the box?

I installed Unity and started working on a game ON the Steam Deck. It's horrible to actually develop on, but I can say I did it. Haha

I think it'd be really gr8 for adding non-VR players to VR experiences. Something similar to Evolve or likes thereof would probably work well.
Eg. VR user = big monster & Steam Deck = Soldiers/hunters etc..

I got a dev kit version and my game Fireworks Mania works on it, without actually having controller support yet.
I still have on my todo to actually do proper controller support, but haven't had time yet.

The Steam Deck is a pretty nice device to be honest.

I'm working on a FPS/RPG hybrid. While I haven't got it running on the steamdeck yet (still early proto) im building it with the screen size and resolution in mind. I've realized many games are not legible at that size, so building a game from the ground up so that it scales well from a small screen to a bigger one is a priority for me

How difficult is it to make your game Steam Deck compatible when you don't own one to test it?

I'm starting studying unity on it(it's my first month). It's cool but I have to admit that is doable only with external monitor and keyboard.

Sadly can't afford any streaming equipment but I would love to make some games for a stream deck. I hope you come up with some cool games for it ♡
Short level games or games with loads of replayability would do better imo than a large game

I really would like to work on the steam deck! It fits my style of game design (over phone apps and touch interfaces on tiny screens). Do you need to actually have the game on Steam in order to mess with your project on the deck?

Building for it, Curious i haven't been able to drop anything on it? It seems as if the games don't launch? Any advice?

Hey Weinmann , For steamdeck the distinguishing feature is its geo-locator that you could hypothetically use to customize your game in various ways. The user experience the game a little different in different locations. Or something like Pokemon-Go/Ingress where you can interact with GPS coordinates.
Otherwise the steamdeck is just an overpriced mobile console (which is why I don't have one)

Compared with consoles it build quick and with less issues, but transferring the game is worse. Steam deck should be a target platform with the possibility to build and run directly on your device via usb or network, or at least if steam deck had a target manager that you can drop builds on and get them started automatically. But I just had one sitting with it so I might have missed stuff.
