Even if it was illegal to discuss your wage with others…just do it anyway- away from the job site and off any related job platforms.

I share my salary details with high performers like myself and close co-workers. I am weary of sharing it with anyone else though, as it may create jealousy. I want my high performing peers to be paid as much as me and they will reciprocate.

Oh, I didn't know that. I worked for a company that discouraged it, and you couldn't talk about your raises either. They passed me up for a promotion for someone else in a different area of the company who knew nothing about that position. The only reason they could give for passing me over was HR pulled their matrix out and looked at assessments I took nearly 10 years earlier when I hired on at the company. I decided I didn't want assessments held against me for the rest of my life, so I changed companies 😂

Always discuss wages. Especially when a company tries to deny this

I worked for a fortune 500 company in California that published all job descriptions and the salary range for each. It was the healthiest environment I've worked in. Raises were based on measurable and achievable goals and everything was laid out in detail so we had a great shot at achieving them. It wasn't perfect, but it was great for achievers. America has devolved back to the 70s.

I figured officially they can't fire you for that, but they might find an excuse to fire you, such as being 2 seconds late 3 times last month

Does this also apply for vacation allowance? Most new starters get 10 days per year but I negotiated a significant amount more. Problem it will become obvious when the rest of the employees see me away from the office for vacation.

Does this apply to dealership employees that are hourly and commission?

Shoot, at my job, we have a paysheet that is filled out at end of each day itemizing each thing I'm paid to do. Then I put it in a tray with the other workers.
I see what other employees get paid each day. Depends on how much you work as to how much you get compensated.

WA recently passed a law requiring job postings to include a pay range and its been mostly awesome for all the workers. It kind of sucks that we have to wait till a job is posted to see what the pay should be for all the people already working that job, some people have outdated job-titles that will never be rec'd again presumably because their pay isn't in-line with similarly situated workers. It used to be that you didn't even know if a "promotion" would include a pay bump until after you interviewed and received an offer

Is there a similar law in Canada as well?

Do prisons have a wing for managers & executives?

I was asked not to share but that's bc they outright admitted I'm being paid around 10-20k more than others in my similar role. My rate is above market but I'm insanely good at what I do, so I know my worth.

It’s very old fashioned to not have transparency at work. Sure, this may have been customary in the early industrial age when everyone was ‘chipping in to do their part’ to rebuild after the wars… but we’re a long way from Kansas Toto.

can you talk about your previous salary to a potential employer? basically, they're asking for your payslip before they interview you.

I mean if you work at a union job then yes you can discuss wages because everyone’s salary is shown

One of the first things my manager said to me was something along the lines of, "Don't tell anyone what you're getting paid or talk about anyone else's pay with them or you could be terminated." I didn't know at the time that this was totally illegal. The only reason he would have to say this is manipulation and/or deception. What other possible reason would he have to demand pay secrecy? I've heard other employees say they were told the same thing. Major red flag.

My coworkers refused to discuss it when asked. They said it was private or personal. These were guys 25 years in with the company or more. Red flag?

Why would I? I know damn well I’m paid the least because I’m the new guy. It’s still 60% more than what my old job paid, and that’s all anyone needs to know. I’m not gonna go starting a fight just to find out the guy who started the year before me makes 2 or 3 k more than I do. So what? Good for him, but how’s that gonna help me do my job?
