Who uses 2/2 anyway? It's the same as 4/4, right?

I argue with myself over the difference between cut time and 4/4. Is there a difference? My other half has some insight for us.

My first favorite piece of classical. Thanks for helping me understand what the difference is!

Either way, this piece is better written as 12/8.

Isn’t that just half time?

I wondered the same thing when first reading sheet music years ago. This is a great video it explains it clearly.

Sounds like a 6/8 type of accent would fit

Something about this song, it's become more then just a song. Its a journey everytime I close my eyes and listen

He uses 2/2 since he implies it quicker than how many of the pianists play it nowadays, but I like both interpretations.

I will never ever understand time signatures. Because like… there are four groups of triplets. I don’t get how you can objectively say there are only two pulses because I hear four: one at the beginning of every triplet

Ok but doesn’t 4/4 also have strong beats on 1 and 3 with 2 and 4 being considered weak? From my experience if it was 4/4 wouldn’t beats one and 3 being stronger be implied? I would love to hear your answer :)

So you're telling me that every simple 4/4 pop drumbeat with a kick on 1 and 3 and a snare on 2 and 4 is in reality a 2/4? And since the accented beats are the snare beats on 2 and 4 thats where actually the 1 should be ... ? I want to see you dance :D !

Noone uses double cut time! Well besides Schubert. I like time signatures like 12/8, 24/16, & 2/4. You should make a short or video on classical songs or composers that use less common time signatures.
