She forgot to mention that each of those specialists would have prescribed at least one drug for the woman to take!

I completely agree! It took me over five years to get a correct diagnosis because my disorder is a whole body disorder affecting multiple systems. Even with the diagnosis, it is not always easy to get the correct treatment because the doctors do not communicate. They rely on me to share what they say and test results don't always give the whole picture. I try to be a reliable messenger, but I don't always get it right because I am not trained to understand it all.

She forgot to mention that each of those specialists often lack knowledge of how their prescribed medicines interact with those prescribed by other specialists. This may lead to drug-related problems and side effects that were not there in the very beginning of the whole process. And the society still doesn’t acknowledge the important role of the clinical pharmacist. At least here in Sweden.

This is why we need to take charge of our own health. My daughter had a brain tumor. During the surgery, she experienced a stroke. She's had eight specialists, her primary, and three therapists. After illness after illness, they couldn't figure out what was causing so many pneumonias.

Now, while we still see her specialists and therapists, her dad's and I added a holistic approach that addresses all of her body's systems, together. She hasn't been in the PICU since we started her new home treatments.

I would love to hear the solution. Problems, there are many and for anyone to point out. But solutions, ones that can be applied in real life are very few.

She is right saying that. It’s soooo sad because it’s reality and I don’t see it changing very soon 😢. But at least we have dr Gottfried to guide us. Thank you

I didn’t get sent anywhere besides an OB when I lost my period for THREE years. It has been rare to get a referral for anything other than primary care in my experience. When physical therapy would probably be able to teach me and help my body, I get pain meds instead. 🤷‍♀

Some of us don't get sent anywhere and just are, for a limited time, grateful if we can see a doctor, those times can also just not lead anywhere... or is that just doctors where I live?
