Does a QUALITY
#videoproduction always COST more? 💰
Creating CHEAP FAST GOOD video projects is hard, but not impossible.
This is the problem:
⤵
Making a GOOD video is a challenge regardless of how much money or time you have to create it. A lot of disciplines must successfully interact for a video project to work.
⤵
To achieve this with some level of guarantee you need to invest in some EXPERTISE. However, a video supplier who has attained expertise will have seen the value of their services increase to the point that they are no longer CHEAP.
⤵
Hence, GOOD and CHEAP simply aren’t compatible.
Because people who can create quality don’t want to work for free.
Therefore, solving the CHEAP aspect whilst maintaining the quality is the key.
In my experience, there are two ways of doing this:
1) Unearth some talent before their skills are recognised by the rest of the market.
2) Offer an established supplier with proven expertise something other than just the cost of the job.
Neither option is simple.
Option 1 is like finding a needle in a haystack, and is Option 2 even a thing? Working for something other than money? Insanity. 😳
Well, on the ‘Where’s Barry?’ project I made for Toyota I was able to offer a CHEAP FAST GOOD solution because of a combination of both options.
1) I’d made several fictional dramas and worked on many health and safety projects before the Toyota job. Meaning, I was under the radar, but my back catalogue showed an upward trajectory.
2) From the outset I knew the budget wasn’t there, but working with an established brand like Toyota, who were willing to trust my creative approach, was an opportunity I and my business colleagues couldn’t pass up.
So, I sacrificed being paid for my skills because I was ambitious and wanted to prove my worth as a filmmaker.
I made ‘Where’s Barry?’ to showcase the type of ground-breaking work I could create.
It became more than just a job for a client, it was a marketing tool for my business.
And that proved to be a successful business strategy.
It led to more work, bigger budgets, more clients, and numerous industry awards. 🎦 💲 🏭 🏆
I’m still leveraging it now!
But those circumstances have now changed. The motivations to work as I did on Toyota no longer exist. Does that mean I’m longer able to create CHEAP FAST GOOD videos?
