It doesn't take 8 years to learn any trade anyone who tells you it does is part of a union and just wants your union dues and for you to work for less money for 8 years before they will give you a tradesman label and allow you to make union wages . Just go get certified as a plumber and open your own business you'll make more money working for yourself with here and their jobs then you ever will being a journey tradesmen with a union .

I would like to say that there is a difference between book smart and experienced. You should have on the job experience because there are things you cannot properly learn from the books. A good example of this is the little tricks that we experienced tradesmen do to make our lives easier as we install to code. No book is going to teach you how to run the backhoe bucket to clear dirt off the top of a pipe without breaking the pipe with the bucket.

I worked in the as a trades man for 7 years currently 28, (last few years i worked in oil and gas)

Most pepole i know above 45 have trouble adapting does gate keep and are against change in so many ways.
Not to be confused with the pepole who teached me and let me build upon the knowlegde, the true teachers of the industry.
Ps. Work in EU btw norway to be specific but requirement wise i think this actually is aboute the same the MINIMUM time here is 6 years but most likely 8+ years

Go Union. I regret not going through the apprenticeship program. After nearly 20 years I decided to go Union. There’s pros and cons though. Not enough cons to outweigh the pros. Pun intended I guess. 😂

So what’s the solution? Since the company I started with doesn’t want to sign off for my confirmed hours can’t take the test. Guess I will get my money from small repairs until I can find someone to pay to sign. I’m in the DMV area

Don’t understand the plumber/master plumber. Every plumber in our state has to go through the Jatc, is licensed, and has to go through a formal school, 4 years non-union, 5 years union. 1080 school hours 8000 work hours. Without a plumber jw card or apprentice card you can’t touch plumbing.

Doctor's have to pay for an education, plumbers have to pay for tools, work truck, insurance, etc.

It's a trade not a profession. You only go to school part time.

3 years as an apprentice or two years as an apprentice, and one year as a tradesmen or journeyman and then, if you take the 24 hour course, and take the CBT you should be able to obtain your master’s.
