ABOUT HEALTHY GAMER:
Traditional healthcare hasnā€™t caught up to the digital generation and the unique mental health challenges your child faces. Thatā€™s because academic medicine typically moves 4 to 5 years behind real life.

Healthy Gamerā€™s direct experience working with thousands of gamers empowers parents to address whatā€™s going on in your childā€™s life right now. Thatā€™s why the majority of Healthy Gamerā€™s first parent users were medical professionals, educators, or academics themselves.

Dr. Alok Kanojia is the world expert on video game psychology.

I had every symptom of ODD up through maybe 9th grade and it was just cuz my parents wouldn't tell me why they wanted me to do something. It was always because they said so and when that wasn't good enough for me, they would say things like "why can't you just do this one thing" or "you don't care about us" "you are so difficult" and the list goes on and on and on and it just taught me to hate myself because they treated me like a horrible person when they couldn't answer the simple question why over simple things for their undiagnosed autistic kid

How does this fit in with Asian parenting obedience culture? Would it even make sense to discuss this disorder in light of cultures or generational trauma situations with the belief that ā€œthe child should obey what I say, otherwise they are badā€? In my own experience with and healing from trauma, the opposition came from an awareness that parents were attuned with their need to direct my experience for their own emotional regulation, unattuned with my actual needs. So their requests from a fight or flight state simply lost credibility and legitimacy, hence the opposition. Iā€™ve seen you speak of both childhood trauma and cultural / family roles in an empathetic yet firm, boundary setting way, and am curious how this clip could be nuanced for dysfunctional or abusive situations where the sense of parental entitlement clouds the interaction between parent and child?

How to counteract? What to do when you behave like this and actually want it to stop?
