I absolutely look up to Dr. Witt Doering. It is quite brave to hear all these patient stories, because they challenge classical psychiatric positions quite a bit. I actually feel challenged a lot and I wasn't even working in this field. But of course, the DSM is a kind of bible of clinical thinking for psychologists as well. Thank you for all these videos, doc!

So agree. You are a Guinea pig on a wheel. And to actually see a real MD you can’t. It’s an ARNP. They gamble on what you need..we pay the price of discontinuation syndrome, adding new meds on top of discontinuation and mixing in to many variables. How do you know what actually works when you are manipulating numerous variables (meds) at once?

This is what happened with my brother. He'd developed pneumonia but the "doctor" was too busy doing other things to treat him for that. He had enough of being under "care". He came to hug me the night before we found him in the front room, Mother's Day, 2002. I have also had many hospitalisations. Some families murder their people just by words. Most of the time now I feel like it would be better if I was gone. I am tired of a life where I cannot openly express my sadness, lest I be put back in the hospital. I guess I must have an "adjustment disorder". A lot of us live lives of quiet desperation. It is not the person who is ill...it is rather the stigma & social shunning of people with a mental health history. I am a person with a lot of anger & sadness that I dare not show. That in itself is enough to drive anyone permanently bonkers. It is very hard to live when you are surrounded by people trying to pull you down even further than what you already feel. We need a whole different society than what we have. People are so pressured through fear of being homeless that they become workaholics. It is all out of whack. Just because you have a sane response to an insane situation does not make you ill. It does however make you human. And as humans we can only take so much.
