You might think of using ball and socket ends and all thread. At least to start, a little less parasitic loss and easy adjustability. Essentially, you would just be making a turnbuckle.

Am I tweaking or is there a model of that engine already equipped with electric starter?
Seems like dropping one of Yamahas starters on there would be very easy and relatively inexpensive… that drill wasn’t free and starters are “consumable”… I suppose I’m being thick but I’d think even a different starter from a platform with similar architecture would be easier and better…
