“Perhaps the foremost interpreter of Eastern disciplines for the contemporary West, Alan Watts had the rare gift of ‘writing beautifully the un-writable’. Watts begins with scholarship and intellect and proceeds with art and eloquence to the frontiers of the spirit. A fascinating entry into the deepest ways of knowing.” — Los Angeles Times

I always thought of Alan Watts as a relaxed old friend who takes things with a piece of salt and who would have never felt upset with anything

This is profound. The effort to apprehend reality causes a “tightening” of the perceptual filtering structures responsible for decoding sensory information; personality is merely a byproduct of that tightening? Incredible and terrifying. ❤

Just do in life what you like without constantly questioning yourself why you like it or why you should do something else according to society. If you don't then you act through your ego and not your true being.

I remember that his last book was with me in my youth years and read it over and over again in times of discomfort. Having the chance to see him now is amazing ❤

I’ve admired this man for at least five years (when I first heard of him) and it was his videos that introduced me to meditation.
I will always feel eternally grateful for getting to hear his wisdom

Why are people commenting on ears, vision etc instead of the point Alan is making here. It’s a really good metaphor! Thanks for sharing

When your heart is open and your awareness brings clarity your understanding of history tells you that the information to evolve past being in a reactive mental state is and has been exposed to all of us for so long and people still ignore their inner beautiful selves sometimes the teachers get frustrated

It’s a byproduct of evolving from animals with better ears that had muscles that could point their ears at things etc

This is true and it is a clue to deeper significance. Underlying the behaviour patterns is a proposition that stress is involved in communication. It is when we see expressions as the transmission of pressures, tensions, and frictions.

Maybe our bodies and faces convey our taste for the effort experience seems to require?

In order to live a life without ego and prejudice, you have to live a life go with flow. means negating everything your thoughts and ego and everything and listening the others. Then you will see your ego will vanish.

The righting of the ears are why we get ringing in the ears. Which is stress. A lack of ego can cause stress. Therefore the ego is important, but can be over inflated.

It's so frustrating to look at myself in a mirror and judge myself based on what I think other people might think I think looks sensible to them.
