We can first turn both #s into 2:
8^8 = (2^3)^8 =2^24
16^6 = (2^4)^6 = 2^34
They are basically the same #s so let's check their numerators:
88>66, but since they are numerator values, we can assume that 1/88<1/66. Therefore, the second # is bigger.

16^6 - 66 is larger than 8^8 - 88

We reach a point when we have:

2^24 - 88 and 2^24 - 66

1st method:
We can say: 2^24 is the same in both cases then the first is smaller because you subtract 88 which is bigger than 66

2nd method: Say 2^24 = x
And let it be x-88 > x-66
=> x-x-88+66 > 0
=> -22 > 0 not valid.

So it has to be x-66>x-88

Therefore knowing that x = 2^24 = 8^8 = 16^6 => 8^8-88 < 16^6-66
