Slowing down the stroke gives you the time to be able to focus on producing a more effective stroke, and keeps you from rushing things and bypassing the learning process.

While, it may seem frustrating at first, the more of this you do early on the more beneficial it becomes in the long run, and the less you have to do it later.

Thanks man, when I dropped from 28 to 21 average, I got much further in the same amount of time. Love the tips...

Same concept with cross country skiing. More length in stride actually gives you faster pace.

When I dropped down to 17-19 SPM I ended up covering the same distance as I normally did with 22-24 SPM, and I can feel it in my legs when my form is correct, I have to internalize this message every time I get on the rower!

Thanks for the info Shane. Rowing along to your video's, you mention rowing 1000K in 4 minutes. I've been rowing for about 6 weeks, but I don't come close to that. I do put much effort in consistency and full force, on the catch.

Is there such a thing as too slow? My stroke rate is pretty slow when I really focus on form like 14 or 15/min.
