A Krugerrand is same purity as the eagle but only has copper as a mix-in. The color difference from eagle to Krugerrand is due to the silver.

The EXACT REASON that this Canadian ONLY buys Maples & Britannias. I'd never buy gold that wasn't at least .999. Maples are .9999--the BEST coins in the world!

The alloy is harder and more scratch resistant.

Pure Gold is relatively soft, so Copper has been historically used to alter the metal lattice to make it harder. Usually 7.75% Copper is the ideal proportion of Strength and the gold still shining up front (more of it and the gold starts looking deeper yellow and turning reddish).

I had a Maple from 1979. There was still 999 Gold back than. When I compared it to my modern Maples with 9999 you can definitely tell the difference. I sold the old coins, when I bought my new car but kept the newer ones. Cherry picking on a high level.

Yeah Krugerrands are also 22k, but pretty sure only the American Gold Eagle has silver in the mix, whilst Krugerrands are just a Gold/Copper Mix

The maples can’t survive circulation the eagle can. The extra weight in silver and copper really strengthen the coin

This is why I always buy Buffalos instead of Eagles, even though I think Eagle is a nicer looking coin. Pure gold, always
