I am so glad you are raising awareness about this. Perjury ruins lives, it's illegal, and the courts give people a pass.

If you can prove it’s a lie, and it’s under oath, why aren’t they charged?!

Damage awards should just be increased for lying.

That's so absurd, and like there is legit nothing u can do. No wonder lawyer fees are through the sky.
Whenever I hear anything like this I remember the quote by Dr. House "Everybody lies"

The problem doesn't lay with the attorneys, but with the disgraceful judges who seem to care less if someone lies under oath. it seems like whomever is the most successful liar in court has an unfair advantage because the judges fail to keep things honest in their courtrooms by ignoring perjury punishments.

A retired judge once told me, "judges do not charge people with perjury for lying. Judges charge people with perjury for lying so badly it insults the judge's intelligence."

Perjury needs to be punished 100% of the time. This is one of the major failures of our judicial system

I think the best advice ive ever heard for new lawyers is "everyone lies to you, even your clients"

why do they ask for a plea, if they then go on to prove whether that plea was truthful? 😂

My family is dealing with this now. My brother is going through a custody case and the other side has made so many horrible lies, they’ve created restraining orders full of lies, and they’ve carried those lies into court. It’s absolutely horrible and disgusting that nothing will be done about it

My ex claimed she was not abusive to me in any way. Then my attorney produced 180 texts and emails of her apologizing for hitting me, or blaming me, and so on. He had her start reading them out loud in court. After an hour the judge told the court to stop the reading and that he got the point already. Still no perjury charge.

What really hit hard for me was there's not really a way to recoup costs when you win at trial for a criminal case that was caused by false accusations. At least what I was advised was a civil suit would be hard to win and cost a lot more so I didn't try. I spent $30k fighting unnecessary and absurd charges just because I pissed off the wrong person who turned out to the type that feels they need to ruin your life for upsetting them.

There’s always 3 sides to the story: my side, your side, and the truth

that reminds me of the thought experiment:
"you can prevent one crime from ever being committed again, but in order to do so you have to commit said crime once" and the easy answer is perjury, it doesnt stop crime as a whole but it makes sure people get the justice they deserve

I hope people dont find this suprising.

At its most basic level courts are really just two people going "nuh uh its their fault" i mean obviously its more than that, but the nature of needing a court is due to peoples inablitiy to be completely fair, and honest with eachother.

If I was a judge. I would warn both sides that lying is not allowed in my court. Any person caught lying will go straight to jail until they write 1000 times, in legible cursive, "I (your full name) will not lie in court ever again." Each offense will double it.

My exs grandma and her tried to coach my daughter back when she was 6 saying i did something inappropriate to her. Took 9 months to see my kid in visitations and another 3 to get her home. Wasnt charged but still the emotional pain my daughter and i went through was horroble. No one should ever have to go though that.

Why the hell is perjury even illegal if it's not going to be enforced when found?
