Right on! Yesterday we had a fun day at work where we got to step out of the sprint and code low hanging fruit that could provide lots of value but only spend one day.
We managed to fully go from concept to implemented solution in one day. AI was used to provide regex patterns, and other, like you said, unpleasant aspects 😄 we would’ve finished without ai too but we would’ve spent more time on unnecessary pitfalls than actually shaping the feature to our liking.

Sure, that's what they said about art maybe a year ago. Meanwhile I know artists who already quit because their source of income is drying up. In less than a year's time. If your job gets less time consuming, faster, better, there will be less of a market for your work because less people will be needed to do the available jobs. If you can do a job in minutes then you will get paid less because why would companies pay you the same for what takes you lingering on problems for hours or days now when you do it in minutes with AI? So OF COURSE there will be less programming jobs. You're also not understanding exponential growth. The better AI can write software the better AI they can make, the better software they can write, and that process will speed up exponentially.

But all developers born into using AI to code will be of a lower quality because they mindlessly accept ChatGPTs answer.
Similar to how auto correct on the keyboard has reduced my ability to spell properly, i just know how to use auto correct and I depend on it. Without it I'm sure I'll make a lot of spelling mistakes😅

I do not agree with people who claim AI is taking over, I embrace our new overlords. However, I am not a fan of tools like copilot. Besides the ethical issues, It bypasses the need to understand what the code is doing by just writing it for you. I almost always disable it once I jump into my editor lately. I would prefer an AI assistant that learns how you code over time and suggests solutions based on that.

So I used to develop, became an author instead and this sentiment exists in the writing community as well. It’s a tool that helps me write but AI cannot replicate human ingenuity.
