Herpetologist here. Agkistrodon is just a genus of pit vipers- as per the Veist naming convention. There's 8 snakes in the Agkistrodon genus- you could've literally picked any of the 8 species and they all fall under both Agkistrodon and Crotalinae. I think this was just a case of someone making an ornament, and needing a word that relates to venom to name it after.
