The Goblin of the Deep Sea #shorts

The goblin shark. At depths of around 1,300 metres, an alien-like creature stalks the deep sea. The goblin shark, with its unsightly nose and a mouth full of sharp teeth, can grow to nearly 6 metres long. Incredibly, its enlarged snout, or rostrum, serves an important purpose. It is filled with electroreceptors, called ampullae of Lorenzini, that allow the shark to detect the electric fields of prey in the endless dark of the depths. Although it may appear sluggish and slow-moving, this shark can be a formidable predator. Moving at 3 metres per second, its jaws are the fastest in the ocean, rapidly extending to catch prey in its teeth. The shark will then swallow its prey whole, before fitting its jaw back into its mouth, and vanishing into the dark once again.

Imagine being the first person to see this would have to be like β€œaw hell yeah look at this shark!” Then seeing its mouth extend would be like β€œaw hell no look at this shark!”

The background music is absolutely a music box cover of the little nightmares theme

Poor guy, he just wants to be accepted like everyone else. It's not his fault that his nose and teeth don't fit societies beauty expectations.

I own a pair of Goblin Shark jaws from a massive specimen. It's truly the stuff of nightmares yet so beautiful πŸ’•πŸ¦ˆ I can say the teeth from my Goblin Shark feel extremely sharp, always have to lift it with caution lo

I remember a story a teacher once told me that at one point they were super rare to find and were in the evasive species list, until a sudden earth quake or a sudden shift in underwater event happened and after it a sudden spike of sightings of them happened. Some believed they were all living within underwater caves and whatever happened forced them to move out into more open waters, but it's just a story as far as I know so not sure if anything about it is even true, probably just a teacher trying to have kids interested a bit more in learning.

For me, it's not really so much it's elongated nose that is strange. It's those shoot out of its face, scary looking, alien like jaws, with the razor sharp, hooked, backward facing teeth, that creep me out the most. But when you're living the deep sea life, you've got to evolve in strange and interesting ways in order to survive. Thanks for the video.

This is an amazing video. To imagine going that far down in the ocean and finding these incredible creatures has been an educational wonder. Thank you so much.

As much as I wanted to hear what you were saying, the Little Nightmares remix was just too good not to focus on

Reminds me of "Alien" with the extension of its jaws to catch prey.
