Zizek also praised Robspierre and The Terror in a BBC docudrama

He doesnā€™t endorse Stalin but he jokes around with stalinism very lightly.

My philosophy teacher described Zizek as a bumper sticker philosopher (I am from Bolivia, where public buses have bumpers stickers with motivational catch phrases) Next day I checked some profiles of politicians and "digital warriors" (payed by the government) and there they were some of his phrases

I mean he doesn't actually say Stalin is good, that's a caricature. Or rather his "Stalin is good" stuff is like his "Trump is good" stuff, in that he thinks they're horrifying and terrible and must be opposed vociferously, just not for the reasons Liberals think they should. And also they might have some silver linings in terms of their long term effect on the overall course of history.

Not left enough! Zizek is a troll who loves to be inflammatory and contradictory. Sometimes he makes good points, too. This question alludes to a validation of horseshoe theory which is frankly bs. Stalin was authoritarian, neither his actions nor Zizek's trolling speak for all leftists and left ideologies.

Broke: disliking Zizek because he pretends to endorse Stalin Woke: disliking Zizek because he doesn't actually endorse Comrade Stalin

When listening to Zizek I dont know when it's trolling and when it is serious. Like about Stalin he has contradicted himself alot and some of his videos seem too trollish to be true. It seems like this contradiction is a philosophical one but I can't explain it. I also get the urge sometimes to make really inflammatory comments which I don't necessarily believe, but see some limited truth in them. So maybe we shouldn't be listening to him as we read Nietzsche or Kant (serious philosophers) and just take some of his valid criticism and even his "I don't care what you think about me" attitude. That's just my take

In the current global far-right political climate, there is no such thing as "too left" because in politics, you need that little bit more than an "equal and opposite reaction" to actually shift the overton window. Even to get to fairly mild center-left socdem stuff, we'd need to be commies just to drag things even partly left.

I don't understand Zizek's ideas well but he seems to have some reactionary takes and gets away with it

You think heā€™s famous for writing about Television and Movies? Do you not realize what a breakthrough The Sublime Object of Ideology was? The greatest post-Althusserian Marxist critique of Ideology ever written? Žižek literally put forward the most groundbreaking work on Ideology in a generation, one that STILL hasnā€™t been surpassed, and to reduce him to a Media Theorist? Iā€™m so glad I donā€™t have to waste my time listening to your new show; thanks but Iā€™ve heard quite enough.

The funny thing is I can see my mom volunteering for the gulag if times got tough.

He jokes that heā€™s like Stalin ā€œdonā€™t give me power because he knows how to use itā€

Zizek is like Diogenes. He will eat dog poop on the side walk and you won't know if he's doing it to make a philosophical point or if he just likes the taste.

Michael is talking about Michael. He laments not yet having the social standing of Stalin or Robespierre.šŸ˜‚

Hard to understand where Michael stands since he's usually just reviewing the philosophy of others. At the very least he comes off as a liberal.
