Intermittent fasting is a dietary approach that involves cycling between periods of eating and fasting. It offers several potential benefits for your health and well-being:

1. Weight management: By restricting the eating window, intermittent fasting can help control calorie intake, which may lead to weight loss or weight maintenance.

2. Improved insulin sensitivity: Intermittent fasting can enhance insulin sensitivity, promoting better blood sugar control and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

3. Cellular repair and autophagy: During fasting periods, the body initiates cellular repair processes and autophagy, which can remove damaged cells and support overall cellular health.

4. Enhanced brain function: Some studies suggest that intermittent fasting may support cognitive function and brain health, potentially reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases.

5. Heart health: Intermittent fasting may positively influence various cardiovascular risk factors, such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and triglycerides.

6. Increased longevity: While more research is needed, some animal studies indicate that intermittent fasting might extend lifespan by promoting cellular resilience and metabolic health.

7. Simplicity and flexibility: Intermittent fasting can be relatively easy to incorporate into daily life, offering a flexible approach to eating patterns that can be adapted to individual preferences.

It's essential to note that the effectiveness of intermittent fasting can vary among individuals, and it may not be suitable for everyone. As with any dietary change, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before starting intermittent fasting to ensure it aligns with your specific health needs and goals.

It works for me! I went from a size 24 to a size 6. I also ate low carb and helped me practice self control which ended up helping me with my unhealthy relationship with food.

Yes. I started IF 16:8 May 2020. Lost 30 lbs and reversed my pre diabetes. It's not a diet just my new eating schedule. I followed Dr Jason Fung.

It has been my impression that weight loss is not the main purpose of intermittent fasting. While it often helps people lose weight (and sometimes not), it has a couple other positive effects on your body and brain.
Most folks eat quite often during the day, snacking between meals. So your brain keeps your body in "build mode". Not good in the long term.
When you fast properly, your brain and body goes into "repair mode" fixing little problems and flushing out waste. Very good for you.
I don't know if they have proven this with human subjects, but tested rats started growing more neurons in their brains.
Many human subjects also noted improvements in their overall mood, myself included.
Not only do I feel much more positive in my life, but I also feel that I am mentally sharper than I was when I started this.

A friend was trying a 6 hour eating window to lose weight, and I did a lot of reading about intermittent fasting and was more interested in it to help heal gut issues and give your gut more resting time to heal itself. I never cared for eating breakfast and started with a 10 hour eating window and over a couple weeks settled into an 8 hour eating window, usually 11 am to 7 pm, which was comfortable for me. I’d been gluten free and low FODMAP for several years but this change made improvements. Gut was more comfortable, blood pressure med has been reduced and weight loss has continued at a reasonable pace and it feels like I should always have been eating this way, two years now. This has been easier on me than anything else I tried. More recent info has encouraged at least starting an intermittent fast 3 hours before sleep for better body repair, something about your body can’t repair while it’s digesting food. It’s worth a try if your medical professionals don’t see a problem with it for you.

I've been doing 18:6 IF for about 3 years and it absolutely worked for me. So much so that I plan to do it for the rest of my life. I lost 70 pounds in under 6 months and have kept it off. Losing that weight gave me the drive I needed to start working out and eating right, and now I'm in the best health of my life. Routine fasting has been shown to have healing and longevity benefits as well. There's really no downside!

Works for me. I’ve done it for years without knowing what it was or why. It just came naturally to me. I eat my main meal (low carb) in the afternoon and a small snack maybe at 6ish, nuts and cheese or a small portion of leftovers. I wasn’t looking to lose weight but it has helped me maintain a healthy BMI.

Hello Docs! I did a Keto & intermittent fasting program. Basically ate lunch and dinner and that's it. No snacking. Stayed under 60g of carbs each day. I am 6'4" and I was 230 lbs. In about 7 weeks I got myself down to 200 lbs and I felt absolutely fantastic. Cravings for carbs and junk was totally eliminated and I felt like I could have fasted for longer than 24 hours no problem, if I needed to, but I didn't go that far.

At 76 I've been doing it (IF) from four to seven days a week for around four years now. I lift weights (for decades) and do other types exercise, and IF works perfectly into my life style. I love it.
