I turned down a job that on paper looked like the better fit. Sometimes the higher paying job isnt the best option. Always act like the CEO of your career and make the best strategic decisions instead of opting for instant gratification.

Don't care about career goals, go get a job that pays you well and gives a work life balance.

You were *financially able to afford/take the job that best fit you and ‘your’ long term goals*. How nice for you.

I don't have many options. At this point, I' might have to take a job that will literally spit in my face , if it means making rent and utlities.

Strategic! its a word I wish I had used much earlier in life to get closer to my goals. A lot of that was due to a loyalty mindset. But the pandemic changed a lot of my mindset looking out here now. Strategic is my theme word going forward.

Exactly. All money ain't good money. Sometimes you have take two steps backwards in order to go forward.

How much of an increase would that 40k be? If it’s 90k vs 130k, either pick is good money, and you can afford strategy. But it would not be a good decision to turn down $80k for $40k 😂

Me here wishing I even made $40k at my last job...that I was laid off from. 🤦‍♂️

At first, I didn’t agree with your decision and to an extend I may not but I do get why you did it. Money doesn’t hold the same allure as it used to for me and recently learned the hard way that culture is just as important as money. If I have to take a reasonable pay cut for better company culture and less or no toxicity, I would do it in a heartbeat.

The flip side of more money, is higher expectations too.

So aren’t you gonna tell us what those jobs were?

This sounds crazy Bryan. It almost seems like you weren’t being strategic because you didn’t consider the time value of money (TVM) for that immediate $40k raise, to be earned NOW and EACH successive year you would have been in the role. Even ignoring all the other positives, what did your strategic choice offer 3-5 years in the future that is more valuable? Really curious…

Absolutely. Since I’ve left America, I’m really seeing even more how other cultures allow for people to spend weeks away from work for a vacation or holiday, has really been great for people. Without fear of being fired.

I used to be extremely career oriented. Now I don’t care about the title and career…whichever job pays the most and isn’t so stressful is the goal.
