Driving in REVERSE: Why Your Client Can't Get Out of Bed
The other day I had a session with a client who's really struggling with FINANCES. And she's really trying to get MOTIVATED.
And she said she has trouble motivating herself just to get out of bed, and do anything to make her situation better.
And, so, I asked her, "How often do you experience PEAK levels of POSITIVE emotion?
Like, 0 to 10, it's an eight, nine, or 10 in INTENSITY of positive emotion?"
And she says, "Pretty much NEVER."
Then I asked, "How often do you experience intense NEGATIVE emotions?"
She said "All the time."
I said, "What level of intensity usually?"
She says, "Like eights, nines and tens."
And I told her, "As long as those negative emotions are far more CONSISTENT and INTENSE than the positive ones, you're going to STRUGGLE to get out of bed. You're going to struggle to motivate yourself. You're going to struggle to influence other people. Because you're trying to get to your destination (emotionally speaking) by DRIVING in REVERSE.
