We logged 25 of the Colombian earth pigments we’ve working with for the past four years! Here they are in no particular order, with names we assigned along the way as we found and processed them. 😊

Fun fact: we never mix colors for my paintings. Mixing earth pigments like you would with acrylics or oils doesn’t really work, the colors get all muddy. So we layer the colors on the canvas one by one, letting each layer dry before we add another (unless we’re shading in which case we blend a bit with the wet pigments on the canvas).

Needless to say, painting with soil and clay is a TOTAL learning curve. Every color has its own texture, personality, and mineral composition so they all behave differently with the brush. It’s a never ending adventure that destroys a lot of paint brushes and creates a lot of beauty 😅🩷
