My art teacher sent this to me and I swear it was the most detailed and helpful video I’ve ever seen. That’s some amazing work... as someone else said, I really can’t believe this was free!

Ben: "highlights are cool" Me: "damn right they are" Ben: "this is a cool highlight, crimson and white" Me: "hell yeah it is!" Ben: "lights are cool, shadows are warm..." Me: "oh, that's what he meant..."

Thanks!❤ Years ago I studied oil portraits with a very fine artist, Bill Kalwick. He moved away and it was over. Today I found your video and I feel I’ve found him again. I do love your video and teaching and I will watch all of them. I am inspired again. Thank you so much, Virginia Perle. !!!

"When you start making it simpler, it's easier to paint. Don't see it too complicated. Usually people see far too many colors." Oh, this is so true!!! Thank you for putting into words why I struggle.

On the nose painting at 14:40 "Maybe that is too much, he's not a alcoholic" LMAO! Anyway, a great watch and thank you so much for this! Just started painting again and this was extremely helpful!

I was impressed on how you never saw the artist's hand. He holds the brush at the very end. That gives his work a very loose and natural look. Amazing!

Perfection. 29 years in art, and somebody finally explains it in a simplified manner. I took notes like Dylan.

I must add I have never seen a tutorial where an artist is so much at ease with his brush and that really knows exactly what every stroke will do ...... I am so impressed and learned so much.

This was so helpful, detailed and extremely well taught! I've watched other oil painting videos about this topic but I always felt like it was way too much information but this really makes it simple and easy to understand. Thank you so much!!!!

Sometimes (very rarely) you come across pure gold dust instruction. This is one such. This is simply brilliant!

I’ve always wanted to paint portraits and have been so intimidated. Your video showed me so simply and clearly how to begin, I started painting alongside you and am so excited. I’m now comfortable to start and keep learning. Thank you so much!

I've been struggling with shades and shadows. After watching this, I'm going to practice to hopefully get the right colors. Thanks a million Ben.
