Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) is a managed service that provides message delivery from publishers to subscribers. It is asynchronous communication between publisher & subscribers by sending messages to a topic. Amazon SNS is a serverless pub/sub service.

Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) sends notifications in two ways, A2A and A2P.
1. A2A - A2A provides high-throughput, push-based, many-to-many messaging between distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven serverless applications. These applications include Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS), Amazon Kinesis Data Firehose, AWS Lambda, and other HTTPS endpoints.

2. A2P - A2P functionality lets you send messages to your customers with SMS texts, push notifications, and email.
SNS supports 2 types of topics.
1. Standard - can process messages that arrive more than once and out of order. Standard topics support a nearly unlimited number of messages per second. Messages might be delivered in an order different from which they were published.

2. Fifo - FIFO are designed for messaging between applications when the order of events is critical & duplicates can't be tolerated. FIFO topics support up to 300 messages per second or 10 MB per second per FIFO topic. The order of messages are strictly preserved.
