Timeless comedy: Phonetic Punctuation & Inflationary Language and more. Born in Denmark in 1909, Victor Borge studied piano in Copenhagen, Berlin and Vienna. His early career was as music director in cabaret and revue, late becoming a local star in his own right. As a Jew, following the Nazi invasion of Denmark in April 1940, Borge was forced to fled to the United States. There, he established himself as as a radio and live touring entertainer. Following this initial success, his one man show 'Comedy in Music' opened at the Golden Theatre in New York on October 2, 1953. It became the longest running one-man show in history with 849 performances. The routines from 'Comedy in Music' have become classics and include Phonetic Punctuation, Inflationary Language and variations on the 'Happy Birthday' tune.
