I Want My MTV
390 videos • 165 views • by Alan Grosenheider MTV, a cable television network that began as a 24-hour platform for music videos. MTV debuted just after midnight on August 1, 1981, with the broadcast of “Video Killed the Radio Star” by the Buggles. After a shift away from playing promotional music videos to producing its own original content with the paradigm shifting Real World in 1992 it eventually dropped the pretense of being Music Television by removing that name from its branding in 2010. This play list starts with highlights from the first day and is then in roughly chronological order though 1993. I recommend watching it with shuffle mode engaged. And, it contains two interviews with David Bowie reflecting on racism in the music industry. I want my MTV!
