Frankie Goes To Hollywood created an explosive moment in British pop history. During the mid 1980s, they dominated the UK charts with their high-gloss anthems. 1984 saw the iconic moment that the provocative hybrid rock-dance anthem âRelaxâ got banned from the BBC, making waves across the UK & beyond and reached a total of 2 million sales at the time. Their politically-charged second single, âTwo Tribesâ, was the longest running UK No 1 during the 1980s, remaining there for nine weeks while âRelaxâ climbed back up to No 2. âThe Power Of Loveâ cemented their record-breaking run of three No 1s in the UK Top 40. Their second album âLiverpoolâ gained similar successes with singles âRage Hardâ and âWarriors Of The Wastelandâ. However, following their stadium tour in 1987, lead singer Holly Johnson departed band which saw the end of Frankie Goes To Hollywood at the time. However, the band have reunited in 2023 for a one-time only performance at Eurovision in their hometown of Liverpool.
