That was a fun game on Saturday against the 2015 ProHybrid Elite team. It was an unfortunate loss for the Tuuks, however I think the team grew a little in the moment that I haven't seen before this. I wasn’t on the bench but through the camera lens I would give credit to Jack, our goaltender, for igniting the fire to allow us to go on a 5-3 scoring run to finish the second half of the game. In hindsight, I think it was the "over the top" goal celebration from ProHybrid that triggered it. It would have gotten under my skin if I were 10 and on the ice as well.
I went back and grabbed my raw footage from the camera. "Raw footage" doesn't have the scoreboard overlay or the instant replays. It's the "hot mic," if you will. It takes a little more effort to skim through but I wanted to see if I captured what I remembered witnessing during the game. It sort of does but you have to piece it all together by listening and seeing Jack in the moment.
The basic series of events:
1. ProHybrid scores their 5th goal with a boisterous on-ice, team celebration. I like to give the kids the benefit of the doubt and I'm hoping it was a special situation that they were celebrating. Either way, no one likes their opportunities being celebrated. Fire ignited.
2. Several minutes later, the Tuuks score. You can hear Jack shouting, and the camera pans back to have him at center ice with the team.
3. The scoring continues on both sides, but the Tuuks start to out-pace ProHybrid. Jack can be seen up with the team after almost all of them. One was a referee debate and the camera doesn't capture anything else.
4. The pinnacle of the energy that is now instilled in the team was towards the end of the 3rd period. The Tuuks were on a 3 on 5 penalty kill. Jack makes an open ice save and is greeted by two overjoyed Tuuks. Smiles all around.
My observation and what I love about youth sports is that every moment is coachable. These kids are all growing and any coach can tell you that, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." At some point, the kids will either learn to overcome their own psychological limitations, or they will succumb to them. I believe Jack helped the Tuuks grow in this moment. These are skills that are easily transferred off the ice that we all aspire to every day. Good on Jack. Good on the Tuuks. Let's keep it up!

The Sniper's Edge Spring Finale is right around the corner. The 2014 Tuuks will have a good match up including a rematch with the 2014 Northern Wings who clinched the Kickoff Cup earlier this Spring. All games are scheduled although the first game on Friday at noon may not get streamed. I'll know more tomorrow.

Another competitive day for the kids today. They did what they needed to, got two wins, and are awaiting tomorrow morning’s results to see if we will make the championship game of the 2014 AAA Sniper’s Edge Kickoff Cup.
