Climate activists in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the COP29 U.N. climate summit took over the hallways of the convention Saturday to urge world leaders to deliver climate financing to the Global South, phase out fossil fuels and ensure a just transition to renewable energy.
Saturday's protest came at the midpoint of the two-week international summit, where world leaders are negotiating how to address the accelerating climate crisis.
Due to restrictions on protest, members of climate justice and civil society groups were not allowed to march in the venue or chant in corridors, so they held a silent protest instead.
Democracy Now! is broadcasting live from Baku all next week, bringing you the latest on the negotiations, protests and more. Follow along at democracynow.org/cop29
