Hi everyone, it really pains us having to write this as it just doesn’t feel real, but unfortunately Fingers passed away last week. There were a couple of things going on with her but to start with we noticed she had a large belly like she was carrying eggs, and after a visit to the vet, they confirmed this and that she had about six in there. We discussed a couple of options, whether to try and help her pass them or do surgery to remove them, as well as spay her, but we opted to try and let her pass them herself and if she couldn’t after about a week or so, we would take her in for surgery. The x-rays taken also revealed that she had a kink in her spine that was not so visible externally but internally looked like a potential cause for concern when it came to passing eggs. We weren’t sure if it would impede her own body’s signaling to lay or cause her pain, so we gave her some pain meds to help in the meantime. After about a week, Fingers finally began laying her eggs, with our help she managed to get two out but the day after the second came out, we had found her passed away in her enclosure. We are so incredibly heartbroken and words cannot even begin to describe how upsetting and unbelievable this feels. We are just so saddened and I feel so much regret not just going ahead and doing the surgery immediately. Surgery on small animals in general is very risky and at the time seemed like the cons outweighed the pros and like surgery would always be an option if she couldn’t pass them… but the process just ended up being too hard on her body. I’m so sorry everyone and there’s not a moment that passes where I don’t regret my decision and think about what the other outcome would have been. I always look to her enclosure hoping I’ll see her looking back at me, praying it was just a bad dream ☹️ I want everyone to know that we still appreciate everything you’ve done for us and how much you loved Fingers. Fingers was such a great little snake, we will continue to let her live on through our posts because we refuse to let her be forgotten. We miss her so much and we know you all will too, and again… we’re so sorry. Rest in paradise my sweet, Fingies 🐍🌈❤️
