Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful feedback on my recent El Camino del Diablo video. I'm glad so many of you enjoyed it!
That's the type of adventure that I live for, and love to share; and it's ultimately what this channel is about. Since venture4wd is both my art and my full-time job, it's important that my videos aren't lame.
The El Camino del Diablo video took more time to record and create than usual, which has me wondering - and it'd be best to ask you...
Here on YouTube, do you prefer longer duration (30+ minute) videos featuring extended trips, but published less frequently, OR shorter (10-30 min), more varied videos published weekly?
I expect to do both for the foreseeable future, but it's a balancing act, and it's helpful to know what you enjoy the most. Thanks everyone!

You might've already seen my video comparing the new 2023 AWD Sprinter with the older 4WD versions, but here's @Agileoffroad's video from that same day in the desert. When we came down from that wheel-lift, the whole contents of the RV rained down onto the floor! I'm glad they had a camera in there!
My take-away was that the AWD is the more off-road capable system, but it was also more spirited and a little harder to maintain a steady crawl without a low-range setting. It might simply be a matter of getting accustomed to the more sensitive throttle response, which I was not, so I would not consider this to be a major detriment if I was considering a purchase.
As it stands, I do prefer the 4WD van for its ability to maintain a nice, steady, slow speed, but when it comes to technical, varied terrain, the AWD version is more likely to get it done.
While it wasn't the main focus of the experience, the Agile Offroad vans, both 4WD and AWD, were equipped with ARB Air Lockers in their rear differentials. This modification radically improved the off-road capability of both vans. If you aspire to venture far off the beaten path in your 4WD or AWD Sprinter to access that hard-to-reach campsite, a locking rear differential can make all the difference in the world.
In fact, just yesterday, Shannon and I encountered a forest road spur in Washington that looked like it led to a spectacular hill-top dispersed campsite, but it was preceded by a steep and loose ascent. With some flailing, perseverance, and possibly momentum, we might've been able to make it to the top - but at a walking pace the van bogged down on the hillside and stopped in its tracks. With a rear locker, I'm sure it would've walked up the hill effortlessly. More often than not, we can get where we want to go in the stock van, but this was a glaring instance where the van's core capability fell short.
A rear locking differential IS on my wish-list, but it's definitely not essential to have fun exploring in a mostly stock 4WD Sprinter.

Next video release will be on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023. My son, Cole, flew into town for the week and I put the camera down to spend quality time with him. We had a great time touring and exploring, despite the warm temps in southern Arizona right now. See you next week with a new adventure!

This week’s video (2/25/23) is postponed, because my dad flew in to visit us in our new home! Here he is diving into a Sonoran hot dog for the first time. In the next episode, I’ll be taking Orangie out in the field! 🙌🏻🍻

A very raw video journal where I share clips from my adventures, and I describe the challenges that I face by adopting a mobile lifestyle. This is not a glamorous production, and content might be boring to all but the overland travel enthusiast. It is intended to be an honest and insightful look at life on the road.
