HEY! It's been a while! Thanks for sticking with me! I can finally report that our next film analysis will be Christopher Nolan's OPPENHEIMER (2023). Yes, I did a quick breakdown of this movie a year ago, but this time, I did a proper scene by scene & script analysis. I read Nolan's screenplay. I read American Prometheus. I studied the symphonic techniques Ludwig GĂśransson used in the music. I spent way too long figuring out how Nolan composed each shot and each cut. And, well, this video analysis is 1 hour and 25 minutes long. I know, not quite Jenny Nicholson numbers, but it's one hell of a deep dive. It's part of the reason this video took so long to finish. I realize each successive deep dive has been "our longest video yet," but I promise that I'm not on some insane escalation path. The next one won't be this long, it can't be. But I do think Oppenheimer is Nolan's best film, and I wanted this analysis to reflect that. We expect this video to be ready sometime this month. Once I know the exact upload window, I'll update you all. Thanks again for your ongoing support of the Deep Dive channel! -EV

Whew... so I've FINALLY wrapped on my analysis of The Lord of the Rings RETURN OF THE KING (2003). This breakdown series was several months in the making, and it's the first time in eight years of being a YouTuber that I completely burned out. Below is my 38-page script, to give you a sense of the video you're in store for. It's coming this weekend. Like the previous two, it'll be over an hour long.
I'll be posting updates throughout the week to let you know how it's coming along from a post-production standpoint. These LOTR deep dives have been my great Ring quest, and they completely wiped me out, but I'm super proud of the work and the hard lessons I learned along the way. Thanks for your patience, my Fellowship, my divers of the deep.
"Well, I'm back," he said.

TOMORROW, The Deep Dive finally returns with our analysis of The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers! The final runtime for this analysis is somewhere around 1 hour 15 minutes, which would make it the longest video I think we've ever made. I didn't expect it to be this long, but I have a lot to say about Sam and Theoden and the Rohirrim in this movie. I hope you like it! Sorry it took so long, family came first!

It's happening! LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy deep dive! Part 1, The Fellowship of the Ring, is coming next week. We're doing Peter Jackson's extended editions. Diving deep into the themes, Howard Shore's music, the writing choices Peter, Fran, and Philippa had to make, the visuals... all the good stuff.
We've wrapped on Fellowship, and we're anticipating this video to be over an hour long (!!!). Yes, this will be the longest scripted video analysis we've ever made. That's the point of this channel.
I was hoping to finish Two Towers and Return of the King by the end of the year, but we'll see...
LOTR has been the top-requested title for me to break down ever since I started doing this. I've been terrified to tackle it. It's my favorite trilogy of films, and Tolkein's text is the most significant contribution to English literature in the past 150 years. But there's just so much. You could make a breakdown video that's 10 hours long for each film and still not cover everything. I talk about Tolkein's writing and mythology quite a bit in this analysis, but I'm sure there are more scholarly approaches to the literature that you can find online. I don't know if this will be the ONE breakdown to rule them all. But hopefully it'll be the Nenya of, like, 19 others. Impostor syndrome is hitting hard. But I think you'll really enjoy these videos!
Thank you for your patience and your support!

TOMORROW, we dive deep into John Carpenter's THE THING (1982). It's one of the best cinematic whodunnits, and I combed through this classic moment by moment for a precise assimilation timeline. Give this film a rewatch tonight on Halloween, and enjoy the plunge tomorrow!

Jordan Peele's GET OUT deep dive coming tomorrow morning! Get Out is currently streaming on Netflix in the US, and for me, it's required annual viewing, and a perfect movie to watch tonight on Friday the 13th. Get out is my favorite film of 2017, and in my opinion, the best debut theatrical film by a first-time director. You're gonna love this video!

ALIEN (1979) is our next video analysis, coming MONDAY! Ridley Scottâs Alien is my favorite film, and we didnât hold back with this analysis. Itâs a big boy. 50 minutes or so? Itâs a survival horror classic that a lot of people know a lot about, but I think I solved a mystery that people have been wondering about with this movie for over 40 years. Youâre gonna love this video. Survive this September, my divers of the deep!

ANNOUNCEMENT! Our next deep dive analysis will be for MAD MAX FURY ROAD!
WHAT A FILM! WHAT A LOVELY FILM!
Mad Max Fury Road was, by far, the best film to come out in 2015, and I think my favorite action movie of the last decade. I included it in my initial teaser video for this channel back in January, and when we were first developing the channel I intended this to be among my launch-day slate. I'm so glad to finally get to it.
When I was at WonderCon in March, a nice young man approached me and asked when I would do Mad Max Fury Road on the Deep Dive, and ever since, I thought, damn, I better get on this!
Our video will hit the channel Monday or Tuesday.
The theme of this month is: SURVIVE SEPTEMBER. I don't know about you, but September has always been the toughest month to get through. I've always lived in warm climates, and in Florida, it's hurricane season, and in California, it's wildfire season, and I just associate the month with dystopia and apocalyptic hell. Whether you're trying to survive getting back in the school routine, or getting Seasonal Affective Disorder from the changing daylight, or realizing everything is going to hell in a hand basket... let's just survive this month and soon it'll be jolly ol' Halloween time before we know it!

Our deep dive of The Dark Knight is shaping up to be the longest film analysis video we've ever released in the eight years I've been making content for YouTube. It'll be nearly an hour long. It also might be my favorite video we've ever made? I'm so proud of the work Devin and the editors are doing. Thank you for your patience -- I promise it'll be worth the wait. Barring any technical delays, you can expect to see it on the channel this week.
In personal news, my wife is pregnant! Voss Baby is coming this December. So if you've noticed I've gotten a bit emotional talking about family & fatherhood lately, that... might be why? lol

If you think it's OK to talk about a movie for nearly an hour nonstop, you're gonna love it here.
