On September 11th, 2001, acts of terrorism would change the history of America forever.
23 years ago today, on a normal Tuesday morning, families would get calls telling them they needed to turn on the news. The first picture below is what they were greeted with. At 8:45 a.m., a United Airlines plane crashed into the north Twin Tower of the World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York. 16 minutes later, at 9:03 a.m., a second plane crashed into the south tower. People were evacuated from the area, and flights and train tunnels heading to the New York area were cancelled. Shortly after that, a third plane crashed into The Pentagon in Virginia. For the first time in history, the FAA shut down all flights in the entire country, and the U.S. Capitol and White House were evacuated. Then, the south tower of the World Trade Center, fell. A fourth plane that was set to crash into the White House contained heroic passengers that tried to take back the plane, and the hijacker deliberately crashed the plane into a rural area in Pennsylvania. After that, the north tower fell. Everyone on each flight was killed.
A total of 2,977 innocent people and heroic firefighters and policemen were killed in the incident, and my heart goes out to the people who lost loved ones in the tragedy. I just wanted to put awareness to this event, and honor the heroic and innocent people who died in an event that will never be forgotten. The event that the world refers to as β9/11β
