I stayed in a shipping container AirBnB recently. It was owned and built by a builder and his wife, had been built from a brand new container, was engineered like the space shuttle. It was a very comfortable tiny home stay, with beautiful rural views, but it would NOT have been cheap to get to lockup, leave aside internal fit and fixture. The engineering factors, the 2 architects mention, like cutting a window begins to weaken the "box beam" strength. The container in the video had more internal space because it was insulated and clad outside. The typical way to insulate a shipping container is foamboard to 2 layers inside, which takes 100mm off the floor width and length.

If you build a timber pole frame house with 100x100 pine uprights and 90x35 framing, with ply floors/ceilings, colorbond roof and plaster clad, foamboard lining, you'll get twice the floor area for half the cost and twice the design life. And your house will be made of materials that most of which by volume, lock up carbon dioxide for hundreds of years.

Shipping contains make good farm sheds. That's all.

A drove of tweeps flood Mastodon, fleeing Musk like refugees from ethnic cleansing. (In a metaphysical sense, not an entirely untasteful comparison, Musk is cunt.) Mastodon closes to new entrants until its systems can cope. Mastodon uses distributed servers, but they're still servers. For social media to be safe from raging, headcase crapitalists, it needs to be true peer-to-peer. XMPP (maybe with DYN protocol for post sharing as files, maybe just as XMPP attachments) could handle this. The Facebook/Twitter timeline was prior art, they cannot claim ownership of that, forums were using it in the really early days of the web. An app, with a timeline, "family", "friends", "work" and custom tabs to divide the timeline, search, secure, read-only, post delivery to friends' timelines. Friends managed from address book. Killer apps, web interface to twitter and facebook for backward compatibility, compatibility with twitter and facebook timeline downloads, a friend search protocol that can "spider" through users' apps on the peer to peer network to see if there is a person the searcher knows. None of this is impossible, it's frankly 1990s or earlier tech. No algorithms, no AI.

Of all the bullshit Musk has drivelled in the last few weeks, the one thing that's made any sense is his "one app for everything" thing. There is only one app. Twitter is the same as Facebook is the same as Youtube Community is the. same as Instagram is the same as all the rest. All that changes is the design and the server address. What if there were no server? What if there was only the app and an underlying protocol? The xmpp protocol could do this. My javascript is rudimentary at best, I'm an old school c-brain, gen X, amateur coder. Even Swift effs me up. I have tried to make an app, understood the protocol stuff, couldn't integrate it into a GUI.

The idea is to share peer-to-peer, no media leaves your phone, reshares would be copies, locked in a viewable but encrypted PDF or similar. Anyway, #LSS, if you code javascript for apps, and want to talk about my idea, bandmassa ^2 gmail • com

Yep, this really is just facebook with ads in the videos instead of in the timeline.

So, there's now a SAMD21G microcontroller board that's smaller (and more powerful) than an ESP8266 0r ESP32! I was experimenting with one of these for a "very special guitar pedal" idea a few years ago, but the Uno form factor was never going to suit a guitar pedal project and I had too much learning to do in Arduino basics to make it ever work. I'm further down that track, now. And this comes along.

Is Youtube Community just a reinvention of Google+ from a decade ago?

#wearefucked unless we do this. And I find it hilarious that Google re-enters the social timeline field the second Musk takes over twitter
