When my kids get into something, I find what TTRPG could best replicate it. The new one is Inspector Gadget!

I think it could be done well in Kids on Bikes - Gadget as a Powered character, and players being Penny/Brain trying to steer him through the mystery

Any better ideas?

So uh... What about a terrain piece makes it "5e Compatible"?

Broke out the #shiverrpg dice and #darksouls miniatures on this rainy day to give little George his first #ttrpg experience! Simplified the mechanics of Shiver (since you know...my 3 year old can't read abilities) and sent him off to rescue his dinosaurs! He loved it!

So expect a video in the future of how I ran a horror game for my 3 year old!

Kids are asleep, wife watching the Tony's, so perfect time to settle in and finish up this book.

My kids may be a bit young for it, but plenty to learn here!

Some preliminary thoughts:

There is a lot of useful information here - techniques and ideas broken down to understandable chunks for mid to late elementary ages.

Examples, exercises and the other more interactive elements are very helpful for kids. As is the inclusion of the glossary of terms.

The 8 to 12 reading age on amazon is a bit ambitious. The average reader at the younger end will need a lot of help.

The font size in particular was noted by my by teacher wife as being small and dense for kids in her age (8 to 9)

But that could be an Amazon aging issue

The variety of material presented is fantastic, introducing not just D&D but a wide range of (in my opinion) more interesting and age appropriate games.

There are a few examples in sidebars which I'm not certain are good fits. I won't name them now, as my research is incomplete

In all - and I'll stress I'm not yet finished with my look - it seems like a great resource for parents to go through with their children who are of an age to become interested in that game their parents play.

Working on part 2 of a one shot of Shiver for the fine folks from ‪@Mastersofnoneshow‬, while falling down the rabbit hole of their back catalog! Nothing better than bringing someone through their first tabletop experience ever - and they are some seriously funny guys so go give them a listen, and watch for my appearance there in the future.

But a question came up during a little Q/A after session about channels and content to learn how to play these games. This has me thinking - so many people have gotten their intro to D&D from Critical Role (for better or for worse), but what are the podcasts/channels you listen to for other games? Drop some recommendations, and you may see them appear in a future video!

The Wildsea just launched an expansion Kickstarter! The original book was part of my massive Kickstarter unboxing video, and I have already pledged for this expansion's collectors edition.

This is not sponsored, paid for, free copy given, or in any way being asked for or influenced by the creators (I'm no where near important enough for that). I just loved the core game, and wanted to share the expansion with y'all!

Check out the Kickstarter here:

Followup to the video on the Glimmering - Seems the launch may not have gone as well as they liked...yesterday they had a tracker of how many were minted, only about 230 out of their 1970 last time I checked. Today they changed it to a countdown timer to the end of phase 2 instead! Guess they didn't find their audience?

So in my brainstorming of a good "first day of April" video, I tried to have #ChatGPT create a mechanically overcomplicated and unwieldy system.

It quite literally began giving me the mechanics to D&D 5E.

It had a few differences along the way (using a spellcasting roll instead of sometimes an attack roll and sometimes a saving throw actually SIMPLIFIED spells), but it was all basically 5E and ended with an amazing line.

Alright, back and rolling once more! As I work through these unboxings and reviews, it's time to pick a new game for the next tutorial. So let me know - which of these would you like to learn, or do you feel is in need of a good tutorial?
