✨ Resident & Fellow Spotlight: Dr. Tayo Arow, MD, PhD

Meet Dr. Tayo Arow — a rising leader in plastic & craniofacial surgery, now completing her Craniofacial Fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

🔍 Inspiration:“Hearing the resounding crack of a Le Fort I osteotomy downfracture first ignited my fascination as a medical student at NYU. As an artist, I was captivated by the balance of technical precision and artistry involved. That pivotal case redirected my career path and solidified my aspiration to become a craniofacial surgeon.”

🎓 Training:At NYU, she gained exposure to craniofacial and head & neck reconstruction. Residency at UC Irvine deepened her skills, from complex craniomaxillofacial cases to following cleft patients from infancy to skeletal maturity. “It was meaningful to build long-term relationships with patients and families over the years as a resident.”

🌍 Global Missions:Passionate about access to care, Dr. Arow has served in Ecuador and Kenya. “My hope is to bring cleft, jaw, and skull surgeries to underserved communities while contributing to sustainable programs through knowledge-sharing and partnerships.”

👩‍⚕️ BYTM Experience:Her first BYTM course was Preservation Rhinoplasty with Drs. @aaronkosinsmd & @deantoriumimd . “The caliber of teaching stood out — dynamic lectures, step-by-step prosections, and an exceptional cadaver lab with engaged faculty. I haven’t experienced another course at that level of depth and quality.”

💬 Advice to future surgeons:“Find mentors who think innovatively and genuinely want to teach you. Stay close, watch how they navigate challenges, and be a sponge. Read textbooks cover to cover to build your foundation.”

🧠 Su filosofía quirúrgica se basa tanto en la estética como en la restauración funcional. Con formación en los campos reconstructivo y estético, prioriza la planificación personalizada, la seguridad del paciente y resultados que se sientan naturales y auténticos.

🌍 ¿Un momento definitorio?Participar en misiones de cirugía reconstructiva en comunidades con acceso limitado a atención médica.
