I invite you to join me in a hands-on journey to evaluate the health claims of probiotics for honey bees using the scientific method.
This idea came from a strong letter by Dr. Kirk Anderson from the USDA, sharing his views on probiotics for honey bees on Bee Culture Maganize. I also interviewed Dr. Jay Evans from the USDA, who published some of the earlier data on the subject, to learn more. An interview with Dr. Anderson himself (podcast coming soon) will provide further insights.
I have done some work on this in the past, and while my position is currently neutral, Dr. Anderson's passion has inspired me to investigate further.
Throughout this series, we’ll break down published research, explore experiments, and discuss the results together. Most videos will be free on YouTube, but there will be exclusive content and discussions available for academy members only.

One Hive Foundation is offering travel funding for 501(c)(3) beekeeping organizations/association/clubs to send appointed legislative liaisons and beekeeping educators to the "Science Policy and Advocacy Training for Beekeepers" offered by Judy Wu-Smart. The workshop will be held at the American Beekeepers Federation Conference in January 2024, New Orleans, Louisiana. Sponsoring organizations will receive travel funds to cover registration and travel expenses for their designated individual to the 2024 ABF conference and attend the Policy Training Workshop.
Workshop Description: There will be a three hour workshop by Dr. Judy Wu-Smart on "Science Policy and Advocacy Training for Beekeepers." The workshop will include both a lecture on how laws are passed, why it's important, and the step-by-step processes of meeting with legislative staffers or testifying. After the lecture, the attendees will break into small groups and practice the skills taught in the lecture." January 11th 2- 5 pm.
Submit an application by December 15th, 2023.
