Obituary for Elsie Brickey Hogston Adam (My Mom): Please keep us in your prayers. This is the hardest thing I have ever encountered and I'm so heart broken. It may be a while before I can get back out detecting. Here's a link to the funeral arrangements for mom:

UPDATE: Mom is doing great and we would like to thank you all for your prayers and concern. To be 99 and 4 months and in the condition she is in is amazing. Please keep praying that she keeps doing well. Thanks and God bless all of you. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back out soon and continue my metal detecting and other adventures. Family always comes before hobbies; I'll be swinging again soon. Thanks for your support throughout these trying times.

Folks, it's really taking me some time to get back to my videos. Last Thursday, my mom, Elsie Hogston Adams was admitted to the hospital with congestive heart failure and the various complications associated with it. This was real scary considering she is 99 years old. Well, after a week in the hospital, she is home and starting to get stronger. Please keep her in your prayers. My wife, Sandy is juggling working and staying with here at night and I'm staying with her during the day. Of course, I'm not able to get out metal detecting right now, but I hope to get back to it very soon. In the meantime, if I can squeeze it in I've got plans to do some metal detecting/Saving Local History associated videos. Right now, I'm completely worn out. Also, I've had a bad stiff neck with a lot of pain for nearly 8 months; finally, I have an appointment on Friday to hopefully figure out the problem and fix it. This getting old ain't no fun. I hope you'll keep watching my videos and subscribe to my channel to keep me motivated. I promise I will be back. Thanks in advance.

Well folks, pretty much finished the electrical work I was doing. Just one more switch to wire and a few inside lights to put up a little later. I'm letting my hands and body recover a little now. In the meantime, I'm getting my detecting and video gear ready for, hopefully, a lot of metal detecting starting soon. I've been out of commission for so long, I'll have to brush up on not only using my detectors, but making and editing videos again. Please bear with me just a little bit longer. I can't wait to get back out in the "swing" of things.

Folks, I've been trying to do some electrical work for a friend and I've worked my more poor hands almost to the point of no return. I said that to say this. I'm trying to get all these little projects behind me so I can get back to Saving Local History. I'm doing a few things that seems to be slowing down the arthritis in my hands and kness, but I still have a lot of pain. Every day starts with 1.5 hours of ice on my hands followed by a hot wax bath. That gets me through the day, but at night, my fingers swell to the point that I can't bend them and the pain is tough. I'm betting that the matal detectors and/or shovels won't be nearly as hard on them as the work I've been doing lately. I forgot to mention that I have been doing a lot of concrete work as well. Oh well, I just thought I'd touch base with everyone before they give up on me. I hope everyone is doing great. Thanks again to all of you who support my channel and/or watch my videos. Hopefully I'll have some good ones to share a little later.

Here's a few photos of my hands just a few years ago; they don't look that way anymore.

I used to have a self-watering bucket garden that contained 85 buckets and was under a 20' x 30' canopy frame. I had to tear down the frame, watering barrels, etc. to have 10 large trees cut down. Cutting up all those trees up and hauling off the brush, really did a number on my hands and knees. I had only found out a month before that I had a very bad case of osteoarthritis; I have no cartilage between most of the joints in my hands.

I decided to do a scaled-down version of my bucket garden to raise a few tomatoes. I took the time and cut the canopy frame up and made a 10’ x 20’ out of it. It was a job digging the footers, etc. I also had 5 tons of gravel delivered and spread it all by hand one shovel full at a time. I mixed all my own soil and had to do all the work manually with only the help of my old John Deere mower and small trailer.

Anyway, enough about that. The reason I’m sharing this it to let you know that I won’t be adding many videos for a while to give my hands a chance to recover a little. The last two nights have been terrible; I’ve slept very little due to the pain.

I’ve got a few more projects I’m trying to get done while I can so I can devote more time to my metal detecting hobby of Saving Local History. My videos are a huge part of my documentation and I plan to do a lot more of them.

I also have plans to do a lot of how-to videos on all the detectors I have at present. I’ve got so many ideas on how to share all the various technology I have used to find sites, etc. There’s a lot of things I’ve been doing that I can’t find anything even similar on the internet that really helps me.

I hope you will continue to watch my videos and that you will subscribe to my channel to help me stay motivated while I recover and try to get some of this necessary work done.

A big thank you to everyone who has helped me on this adventure; especially the ones who have subscribed and/or watch some of my videos.

Folks, I thought I'd let you know why I've not been posting much lately.

Reason 1: I'm finally doing a much-needed update to our 100+ year old house. Since it's so expensive these days, I'm having to do most of it myself with the help of a couple of cousins when they are available. I'm talking about major updates starting with replacing all the seals and beams under the house followed by building a new wrap-around porch, all new windows, vinyl siding just to name a few; it's a very hard job. I’ve worked on this for 24 days thus far putting in a minimum of 8 hours per day. Did I tell you that the crawl space is only a few inches? We're having to dig that down to at least 16" as well.

Reason 2: I was recently diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in both of my hands and knees and probably my back and neck as well. The pain in both of my hands is almost unbearable at times. My orthopedic doctor told me to go very easy on my hands and not to do much lifting, etc. Well, the house updates are not letting me follow his advice very well.

Here’s my routine: I take Glucosamine and chondroitin that’s not known to help but maybe a chance. I take collagen peptides; again, something that may or may not help. I’ve only been taking Advil for the pain when I can remember to take it. Every day, I dip my hands in hot wax; this helps for a few minutes. I use ice packs when I can on my hands and knees. I wake up every night around 2 or 3 AM in so much pain that I don’t think I’ll be able to stand it. This is when I cover my hands with Unkers salve and put a heating pad on my lower back and ice packs on both knees; this stops the pain for an hour or so but I have to set up the rest of the night. About 7 I’m able to go back to sleep for about an hour. If I’m lucky, I’m getting about 3-4 hours’ sleep every night.

I have an appointment with a hand specialist on the 10th; maybe he can come up with something that will help me.

Back to Saving Local History and metal detecting. I looked forward all Summer to getting to detect almost every day since I have so many great sites lined up. I’ve got many interesting metal detecting training videos outlined as well. I promise you that I will be back soon and I’ll try to play catch-up as much as I can. Please don’t give up on me as I have a lot to share. I’ll tie my detector to my hand and hire a digger if necessary.

Good luck to all my detecting buddies out there; Save a little Local History for me.

Well, another very successful day of relic hunting without my detector. Today, I drove another 80+ miles seeking knowledge and permission. The information I obtained is priceless and I'm one step closer to the ultimate permission.

A big bonus is that I was directed to an area I didn't even know existed; a huge valley that is accessed by a very crude and narrow road. Many Civil War era houses and spectacular scenery. I'm sure this is the soldiers trail that has been eluding me for many years; right under my nose.
Research has always been a huge part of my metal detecting success. These all-day excursions without my detectors have a way to pay off big time down the road. Stay tuned……

Well, I drove the old jeep over 90 miles today, mostly through a terrible wind and rain storm, and just got back home. My mission was to seek permission on two sites I have researched and pinned down. I accomplished my mission on one great site and made tremendous progress on the other one.
When the weather cools and the grass dies down a little I'll definitely be saving some local history; at least local to someone. Watch out for the videos and photos.
