Story Time! Back in January I started to directly work with Boker as their Marketing guy for North America. Having worked with Boker over the years in different capacities and having a good relationship with the Owner/CEO Carsten I was excited to get working. As with any new gig I knew there would be some surprises along the way but the biggest surprise so far has to do with this random box of knives and what it represents.
When I first started working at their Denver office I pretty quickly discovered boxes on boxes of knives with no real identification and they all seemed to be abandoned. Boker offers a great lifetime warranty so I assumed these were warranty/replace knives but then I wondered why they were just sitting and piling up. It turns out these knives had been collecting for decades and they were considered “seconds”, knives that could be good to sell but not as brand new. I felt like the Indiana Jones of knives! Here was a literal treasure trove of discontinued, prototype, and vintage knives just waiting to find new homes!
After doing some thinking and asking around I reached out to Whatnot to see if they were interested in having Boker Official on their app, and they said yes! So a few months ago I got Boker set up and we started doing regular shows. I run a few and my guy Steven runs a bunch. We’ll see you out there! After just over two years of running this crazy dream of EDC stories and reviews me and Jamie are closing down shop. From every YouTube metric and friendship metric this thing has been a huge success. You guys have showed up time and time again to check out what we are doing and me and Jamie don’t hate each other😁. From our previous experience we knew a media company in the knife world would never fully pay the bills and we ran out of runway trying to get different ways to get this thing off the ground and soaring. We always said we would do things authentically our way, that we would never shill, and we would only tell the stories and share the experiences that we really wanted to and we can proudly say that is exactly what we’ve done! So thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts for helping us work at our dream job, and thank you as well to all the industry support! What we were doing was a very different approach and the people and companies you saw on the channel really believed in what we were doing. There’s a good chance you’ll see Jamie kicking around the knife world somewhere and I’m just going to do my Zac thing and ramble for a while maybe I’ll be back around maybe not. Doing this type of creative work comes with a lot of doubts about the value or usefulness of what you’re making. I hope you’ve gotten more from this project than just a few recommendations on gear. With all that being said…We’ll see you out there I hope👊
