The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif, also known as Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri.
These warrants are connected to accusations of war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to atrocities committed since October 7, 2023.
The ICC's Pre-Trial Chamber I has rejected Israel's appeals against its jurisdiction, and the court has stated that the release of these warrants is necessary to inform victims and their families.
The warrants are secret, but they will be executed in the event of cooperation from the member states of the Rome Statute, which obligate them to arrest and surrender the accused to the ICC.
The court has emphasized that the trial cannot begin in absentia and relies on international cooperation for enforcement.
