🎉 Exciting News to Share! 🎉

I am thrilled to share that I have been officially approved as a Full Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and have the privilege of now carrying the TEP designation after completing two years of study.

I eagerly look forward to connecting with fellow TEPs, exchanging insights, and diving deep into discussions shaping our industry's future. The journey of continuous learning and professional growth continues, and I am all set to contribute to and benefit from the vast pool of expertise within the STEP community.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to STEP for this recognition and to all my colleagues who have supported me on this journey. I am enthusiastic about the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead as a TEP.

Let's connect and advance together in advising families across generations!

I started a corporate and estates solicitor practice 7 years ago without the benefit of having worked in another corporate / estates firm. There are big drawbacks to *not* receiving that kind of mentorship and learning the ropes within the safe confines of an existing practice. Getting appropriate mentorship required me to be just as resourceful at building a network of supportive lawyers as I was at finding clients. Not hugely fun in the early years, to be honest!

But, I didn't have to unlearn a whole lot of habits and adopt conventions that didn't actually make sense for who I am. Law is very heavy on the existing codes of conduct of the trade, both those enshrined in the various statutes governing our profession, and the more subtle ways that you're supposed to be a lawyer. Many of these conventions are maladaptive, and create tension for both the lawyer and their clients. They're just not great ways of doing business.

There is no "right" way to be a lawyer (though there are certainly many ways to do it poorly). But there is a "right" way for you, just as there is for me. I can't wait to share at the Authentic Lawyer Summit my own journey to building a career and a business that does work for me.
