I've been planning and working on some other Sonic rom hacking side projects in the last year or two, and 2 of them have started proper development. I haven't really posted anything on them; I feel like keeping them secret will help them have more Oomph when they release, and they are currently very, very early in development (to the point where they can be unplayable at times), so I don't plan to showcase them in proper video form for a while.
I think S2CDR is finally on a proper hiatus; I've been working on it as my primary project for a little over 5 years at this point, and I feel like I've exhausted what I can do with the time travel mechanic it was built around. Catering to vanilla Sonic 2s' zones and layouts has made me feel very limited, and the task of adding new zone artwork that fits with the vanilla Sonic 2 zones for the time zones no longer feels doable now that my confidence has degraded. These new projects explore things that S2CDR can't reasonably do, and have low/no expectations due to not even being revealed yet, so I feel way more comfortable spreading my wings there. I'm hoping they'll boost my confidence a bit so that when I do come back to S2CDR, I'll be able to do it properly.
Since S2CDR has become a codebase for all my other projects, all 3 rom hacks share the same basic engine, and fixes applicable to all of them are usually shared between them, so occasionally some bug fixes and tweaks still come back to S2CDR. But for the moment, I'm taking a break from it.
I want to be quiet about the new projects, so I won't share too much, but I might post some tantalizing teasers in the community tab. I'll probably delete the posts a day or two after making them, so stay tuned!
Stumbled on this really cool video about Sonic 2s' development and it's repurposed music tracks that was really insightful for me! I thought I was pretty familar with this already, but it really opened my eyes to some of the musics original purpose!
I agree with most of it, but I'm quite certain "Olympus" is Hidden Palace, as it matches the internal level order. His thoughts on 'Dust Hill', while impossible to verify, make an awful lot of sense too; those trees would be easy to swap out for oasis style palm trees!

Just noticed something really annoying, was wondering if anybody else is experiencing it. Does YouTube ask for your microphone whenever you try to add a video to a playlist? It pauses the video and brings up the browser side notification to ask for permission on my end, and it's annoying and kinda creepy. I'm hesitant to outright block the microphone too, since I might need to record something on YouTube someday...
This could be one of googles weird experiements that roles out to a select few, or maybe I'm targeted by it because of my channel? Would love to know if anyone else is bothered by this.

My main computer died a few days ago. It looks like it's the motherboard that died, and it's a laptop, so I'll likely never be able to use it again. Thankfully, everything is backed up on git, so I didn't lose any source code or anything, but this backup computer I'm using is a work station from 2015, so I doubt I'll be able to make youtube videos with OBS anytime soon.
It's a big hit to moral, having a rough day today...
Youtubes' awful update hit me today. I really appreciated the dislike ratio, not just to see peoples feelings towards negative topics, but positive ones as well. I got a browser plugin that fixes it, but it's only a matter of time before youtube takes note of that and starts removing dislikes from their API altogether. I really hope they listen this time, even though the entire point of this update is so they never have to listen to us ever again...
