In the decades following the Civil War, Union veterans in large numbers moved west and settled in Seattle and Washington State. Well over 3000 Civil War veterans called the greater Seattle area and King County home. This page features stories and history of what these veterans went through in the war from 1861-1865 and their lives in Seattle in the decades that followed. Seattle’s Civil War veterans encompass an incredible diversity of wartime roles, with soldiers from every state in the Union Army, every branch of service, every battle and theater of war.
