Happy Fourth of July Americans! Celebrate FREEDOM with your family, give thanks, respect those who paid the price, and remember "WE THE PEOPLE" make all the difference, so always uphold our Constitution and Bill of Rights. If they are endangered, so are our freedoms. God Bless you all real good.

If you're trying to make my version of Grandma Brown's baked beans but forgot to soak them overnight, use the quick soak method! Rinse and sort beans, place in pot with 1 tsp baking soda and cover with 2-3 inches of water, bring JUST to boil. Turn off heat, cover, and let sit for 1 hour. Rinse beans again and begin recipe. This does not cook your beans but softens them enough to cook more evenly and quicker than not soaking. Some prefer to leave salt out until beans are thoroughly cooked, as they feel salt lenthens cooking time. Your call on that. Here's the video. Recipe is in the SHOW MORE section of description. I am also going to try making them on slow cooker and in Instant Pot and will post those videos/recipes when done. Here's the original video: https://youtu.be/bxocKCFNPZo watch video on watch page

My take on the Asbury College Revival: The phrase "Radical Humility" is surfacing from those attending the Asbury College Revival. I am old enough to remember the "Jesus Movement" of the 1970s. In fact, I was saved in large part through the preaching and worship which stemmed from it. As I drew near Christ, I saw my own sin, and was humbled that a loving God would sacrifice His life for me while I was yet a sinner, so I could be forgiven. That is the true Gospel. Confession, repentance, and Receiving the Gift of God turned my life around. No, God did not leave me where I was, He worked through his Holy Spirit to change my heart. Suddenly I could see others through His eyes, identify with their humanity and love them as they were, but I also had something I could give them. I was a beggar who found bread and I wanted to share that bread with others who were starving. As I watch these young people sing and praise, my heart is quickened with a spark of recognition. It is me all those years ago, submitting to the same Holy Spirit. The Pharisees may nit pick and try to find fault, but I say let the Holy Spirit do His work. It's HIS job to convict and change hearts. He will winnow the chaff from the wheat. Pride has no place in the Christian's Life. None. Zero. Nada! Let us embrace Radical Humility and reach out to others, all the while singing praises from our broken, contrite hearts, which have never been more free! I expect revival in my home church this Sunday, and I expect it to begin in me. God bless you all!

Tomorrow hubby and I are traveling to Lancaster County PA for a belated Valentine getaway. I plan to take videos of my favorite shopping places: ReUzIt Mennonite Thrift Shop and Lucky Dog Thrift Shop, both in New Holland; Ollies, Christmas Tree Shop; QVC Outlet at Rockvale Shopping Center; and Goodwill Outlet to search for wool sweaters to make mittens. Might even try going live in a few places! Anyone else going to be in Lancaster County this weekend?

Senior Mom of 7, Gramma to 8, building an organic mini-farm and orchard on less than 1/4 acre in suburban Zone 7B Maryland!
My permaculture homestead includes 10 veggie beds, berries, 12 dwarf fruit trees (some espaliered into a living fence), many herbs and pollinator flowers.
Seeing is believing -- At 68 years old, this out-of-shape Gramma personally dug two 4x8x3-foot TRENCHES with a SHOVEL to make hugelkultur beds, and I have the videos to prove it!
Watch me crochet/sew! Join me in my vintage-inspired kitchen for baking and cooking plus pressure canning, dehydrating, and freezing my harvests. You might even catch a glimpse of my kitchen faries who magically help me cook, clean and decorate!
Listen to my frugal financial tips and laugh and cry with me as I share stories of faith and family. I love to hear your stories too!
